Movies, Books and Reference

To like zombie stories, I reckon you have to have watched a lot of movies, read some books, played some video games and learned to be disappointed at times.
As you get older people think you are mad, or as one guy said to me recently, "My god, you like zombies? You're like a kid man", to which I replied "get an imagination, man". Conservative turd...

To write a good zombie story (like I am attempting) you have to do lots of research. Films books, and games are good sources of research so read on.

There is of course Romero's classic "Night Of the Living Dead" from 1968, which is one of the first real zombie flicks. He was the same director that did "Land of the Dead" in 2005 which was followed by "Diary of the Dead" which used "shaky cam" and "Survival of the Dead" I have not seen this one yet though.
I hired this the other night and really enjoyed it. The critics panned it but I thought the way Romero descended in farce and comedy was a nice touch. I started off disappointed but was a convert by the end. Definitely not serious entertainment though.

Romero's films are usually good so watch one today. Unfortunately, as I said everywhere else, horror movies don't need to have idiots and too many of Romero's characters are, unfortunately, idiots. He usually has a social message as well and this is really evident in Night of and Land of the Dead, in which he explores racial and social equality themes.

For those who would like to see the film from 1965 based on Richard Matheson's  1954 awesome novel, "I am Legend", starring a young Vincent Price, I found it on youtube and you can watch it here
Zombie lovers should read the book and watch the films. The next film they made was the "Omega Man" starring Charlton Heston in 1971 which I thought was total crap. Don't bother.

Then we have Will Smith, in the remake of "I am Legend" which I loved all the way up to the bible bashing chick at the end. Too much, no any, religion in a horror film, unless it involves the end of this medieval superstitious practice, will always ruin a good film. Watch the end of  "Omega Man" and you will see what I mean. I don't think Charlton ever got over his role as Moses in that epic "The Bible".
A good film, although a bit of a "B" film is "I am Omega". It loosely follows the I am Legend story and has plenty of really jumpy moments for the viewer. A good watch and almost believable story line.
